Cover to Cover... advice

Hey, Everyone!

As you can see we had the best time together when Meghan was home from New York and John home from college this weekend. For just a little while we got to pretend it was the old days when they lived at home. We had a lot of fun with many laugh-until-your-stomach-hurts moments!

I am enjoying our Cover to Cover readings (hosted by Bev) of the Bible chronologically. I did a lot of my readings on the computer. I found myself wanting to read a lot of different versions. It was so much fun! Here's what lingers for me this week...

Song of Solomon 2:7 (The Message)

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem,
by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer:
Don't excite love, don't stir it up,
until the time is ripe—and you're ready.

I wondered why Song of Songs was in the Bible. It's such a short book, but how romantic! It's a beautiful love story. It made me think about my daughter and any girl who needs advice when it comes to her love life! On our bike ride my daughter and I were talking about her friend who lost her mother right after she graduated from high school. It's so sad she doesn't have a mom to talk to about life. I was very proud of my daughter who told her friend she will never tire of hearing her talk about her life and concerns. She is very compassionate. Meghan doesn't take it for granted that I will listen to her talk about her problems forever! She cannot imagine not having a mom.

I believe the advice given in the above verse for the woman (beloved) is invaluable. She warns her fellow sisters not to awaken love before she is ready. I think this is a huge problem with young people. They are not whole in Christ before they get into a relationship (I am talking from my own experience). My daughter will be 23 years old and has many friends getting married this Summer. She is not in a relationship right now and frankly, I think it's great. She has a lot of growing to do to become whole in Christ first. Life can get pretty complicated and messy if she rushes into something she is not prepared to handle. I want to make sure she is healthy on her own. Then, when the time is right and she is ready, God will bring the right guy in her life! I am praying for him to be a godly man!

In the meantime, I pray Meghan and her friend will know God will always listen and His Word has the best advice anyone can offer!

There was so much more in this week's readings. I loved Solomon's Prayer of Dedication to the temple and I also loved this...

2 Chronicles 2:5-6

"The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods. But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? ...

It's so true God cannot be contained in a building!
He is so good!
Much Love,
Angie xoxo

I'm glad you were blessed with such a wonderful weekend and the feeling of old times. We study the Song of Songs on Rachel Olsen's online study a few months back. I too wondered the purpose of it but learned it was included as an example for what love should look like...an example of it.

Ang,

I'm so glad you had such a blessed time! I will post my Cover to Cover tomorrow morning. I've had a wild ride with God this week!

I had learned before, but had forgotten that Song of Songs is actually a love story between Christ and the church where Christ is the Bridegroom. It fascinates me to read Old Testament writings that were about Christ!!

I'm glad you had a good visit with your daughter, and I am not the least bit surprised that she is so compassionate given who her mother is!

Blessings!
Michelle

Great photos! Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you have all your family together under one roof again?

Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day. There's a great video at the end of my last post honoring our "warriors". It's worth watching.

Hugs!

Hello Ang-
I was so blessed by your cover to cover entry. Though I have been reading your blog for the past few days. I was drawn to it because we share similar names.

I had not been touched to post anything till today. I was touched not only with what God showed you in your cover to cover word, but the video you chose to post at the end.

How encouraging to Know that there is NO mountain high enough or valley low enough to keep us from the Love of Jesus Christ.

Your Siesta

GREAT post! Both of your kids have your gorgeous smile. And I loved that excerpt from that movie. I just loved that movie and that part of it is one of the best.

What a powerful post, Angie. I am so struck by both your thoughts, in Solomon--how I wished our young women today knew love is worth the wait and not to be rushed. And your thoughts on knowing God is bigger than anything in this world absolutely slay me this day. In that scene from Stepmom I'd never seen how Christ's love saved them. Beautiful tie-in and bringing the point home. He is so good and His love endures forever. Love you, Annette

I am over here dancing in my seat singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and the fam is running to my computer to see what I am watching---my teenager is shaking his head...I LOVED IT! And I LOVED the verse you shared that no building can contain our beautiful God! Hey, Ang the readings for the next 12 days are Proverbs so I think you will be doing it :)
LOVED your post and the surprise song! Too good! And to have all your children home at one time---so awesome. We had ours for Christmas for almost a week but that's been the only time in a couple of years. So, I know you enjoyed every minute! They are beautiful kids---I mean one handsome, one beautiful!

Your kids have your beautiful smile! Our kids are close to the same ages and in similar places in their lives. I quote that same passage to eye rolls, but it is being heard!

Angie,
What a beautiful post! I am moved by the scripture that lingered with you. I've heard that saying before; yet I didnt realize it was scripture until I read it. Thanks for sharing this powerful post!

Angie:
I love this verse from the Song of Songs. My son (19) and I had a similar conversation this past weekend in regards to relationships. Because he is a child who has experienced the pain of his parent's divorce, he treads carefully around women. He echoed the heart of Paul when he said, "Mom, I'd rather stay a single man my whole life then to marry and go through a divorce."

It hurt my heart, but I understood what he was saying. He wants to be "sure", and I told him that if God wants him to marry, he'll know. Greater yet, he can be assured that he walks in God's grace all the days of his life!

Have a blessed week.

I agree wholeheartedly with your selection from the Song of Songs. Worthy advice that all parents should teach their children. No matter what their age.

Loved the family pictures. I was trying to picture John without hair!

Enjoy the day, my sister.

First of all, you all have perfect teeth. Seriously. I am jealous.

Secondly, I am LOVING this post. And I think you know why! ;) It was refreshing for me to hear that verse. I will not awaken love before I am ready! Amen to that sister!

Thirdly, thank you so much for your kind words. They mean the world to me!

Much love your way!

It looks like you all had a wonderful family time together! And good for your daughter to have the self confidence and esteem not to need to rush into the wrong relationship. I am afraid my oldest girl has had a tough time with doing that very thing. And it is always easier to see someone making that mistake when you are outside looking in. I just keep praying.....

What is the best job I've ever had?
